Multi‐zonal method for cascading failure analyses in large interconnected power systems

چکیده

Most cascading failure analysis methods successfully capture developments within one control zone, or region comprised of multiple zones, controlled by a single transmission system operator (TSO). They neglect, however, the operations multi-zonal systems. To bridge this gap, authors introduce method for analyses large interconnected power The accounts all zones in system, assesses their flows, re-evaluates topology after disturbances and applies frequency balancing measures each zone independently, thus effectively simulating actions TSOs. demonstrate capabilities method, case study is investigated which compares security benefits (national) versus single-zone (regional) system. application to IEEE 118-bus test shows that regional approach increases small medium cascades, whose expected demand not served reduced 28% 26%, respectively, comparison national approach. On DC-Segmentation of Interconnected Power Systems

The ultimate goal of power system operation and planning is to increase power system reliability which enforces interconnected operation of power system. As a result of power system interconnection, the inter-area oscillation under different disturbances may cause power system partial or total blackout. DC-segmentation of interconnected power systems is a solution in which the topology of the n...

Evaluating the potential of cascading failure occurrence due to line outage in power systems by information theory method and radial base functions

In power systems, a connected topology is created to increase reliability and economic performance. Increasing dimensions of power systems on the one hand and the need to continuously monitor power systems for secure operation on the other challenge the evaluation of power system security. In such conditions, due to economic conditions and considering the fast growth of consumers in a power sys...

Cascading Network Failure in Power Grid Blackouts

Cascading failure consists of complicated sequences of dependent failures and can cause large blackouts. The emerging risk analysis, simulation, and modeling of cascading blackouts are briefly surveyed, and key references are suggested.

Power grid defense against malicious cascading failure

An adversary looking to disrupt a power grid may look to target certain substations and sources of power generation to initiate a cascading failure that maximizes the number of customers without electricity. This is particularly an important concern when the enemy has the capability to launch cyber-attacks as practical concerns (i.e. avoiding disruption of service, presence of legacy systems, e...
